Hurricane Isaac brought in the winds and surge. He also blew in some special guests... the Magnificent Frigates. These rather large seabirds are most interesting in that they do not sit or swim in the water. Their feet are not webbed, they have claws for snatching fish from the water or from other birds (hence their common name of Pirate Birds). Also their feathers are not tolerant of water... as they absorb water. In flight, they sore with a grace of a kite, and can fly/sore for up to a week at a time. They are not common inland visitors, especially on our northern Gulf coastline. They were beautiful to watch as they flew in small groups, soared on the Isaac winds at the shoreline and enjoyed our back water fishing areas (Plash Island, State Park and Fort Morgan). What a thrill it was to see these 'magnificent' birds during their short stay
